Original crimson morocco, the spine richly gilt, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, a very little wear, else especially attractive; a luscious copy. ¶ The uncommon first English edition of Holmes' tour de force, published the same year as the first American edition, and described by Professor Howe as "an originating venture", and Holmes as "the first to attempt a full-scale study of the common law"
