Edges and corners worn; boards showing through the leather at the corners. Small indented scrapes in covers; page edges tanned; rear endpapers spotted. Small tear in page 425-426 repaired with tanned tape. Binding slightly loose; rear hinge cracked, although the book remains whole. Text clean. Issues of the Cosmopolitan literary and cultural magazine from May 1899-October 1899. Illustrated with many black and white engravings. Includes three installment of "The Awakening" by Leo Tolstoy; the fourth issue contains an explaination called "Discontinuance of Count Tolstoy's Novel" in which the editor details a dispute with Tolstoy's agent over the terms of the magazine's contract for reprinting the novel. There is also a short story called "Larry McNoogan's Cow" by Walter Barr, and an article called "Tea-Drinking in Many Lands" by Laura B. Starr. Fair .
