Description: New York, Frank Leslie's Publishing House, 1885. Leather. 760p. A large hardcover book bound in 3/4 black leather with marbled boards. FAIR condition. Tear in the spine, right on the bottom raised band. Edges scuffed and boards rubbed. Closed tear at bottom pf page 95. Page 113-114 is worn and nearly detached. Pages lightly foxed throughout. Rear hinge starting to crack, but still weakly holding. A worn but readable copy. Volume 20 of Frank Leslie's POPULAR MONTHLY, containing all issues from July through December 1885. Illustrated with lots of beautiful black and white engravings, including depictions of the Statue of Liberty (which was set to be unveiled later in 1885), Charles Dickens at a writing desk, and Prince Alexander ("Sandro") of Bulgaria. Includes several color plates as well. Also contains a poem by Joaquin Miller called "Drowned" and a piece by Sabine Baring-Gould called "The Story of Helene Gillet." Measures approx. 11" x 8.75. Fair .
