Description: New York, Sheldon & Company, 1869. Leather. 920p. A hardcover book bound in 3/4 black leather with marbled boards. FAIR condition. The spine is coming off, leaving the front cover weakly attached. Edges rubbed as well. Owner's name on title page and notes on rear endpapers. Top corner chipped off page 41, not affecting the readability of the text. Occasional spotting in margins and scattered pencil marks, but most text is unmarked. Pages still tightly bound despite cover damage. Suitable as a reading copy. Volume 7 of THE GALAXY, a monthly literary magazine, with issues spanning January through June 1869, plus the March and April supplements. The title page states that this volume also includes the July issue, but July is NOT included. Contains an article titled "Women as Voters" by Julia Ward Howe (who wrote "The Battle Hymn of the Republic"), the poem "The Flight of Diomed" (from THE ILIAD) by William Cullen Bryant, an installment of THE THRONE OF LOUIS PHILIPPE by John S.C. Abbott, and multiple contributions by literary critic Richard Grant White. .
