Description: Paris: Les Editions Rieder, (1930). (1930). - Octavo, 8 inches high by 6-1/4 inches wide. Light blue cloth titled in black on the front cover and the spine with a vignette in black on the front cover. The covers are lightly bumped and soiled with some rippling to the cloth of the rear cover. 87 & [1] page plus 60 pages of illustrations, many full-page. A Quebec bookseller's stamp is on the front endpaper with a stamp "Made in France" on the rear endpaper. There are spots of foxing to the fore edge of the book and some minor flaws internally. Very good. First edition. From the collection of the Canadian organist, pianist & teacher Henri Vallieres, signed by him on the half-title. The organist, pianist & teacher Henri (Eugene) Vallieres (1901-1989) studied under Henri Gagnon at the Seminaire de Quebec. During that time he assisted Gagnon at the Quebec Basilica. He succeeded his father as the organist of St-Patrice Church in Riviere-du-Loup before traveling to Paris in 1928 to further his studies under Marcel Dupre, Paul Loyonnet and Henri Poriton. Appointed organist of Notre-Dame-du-Chemin in Quebec City upon his return in 1929, Vallieres also taught solfege and piano at Laval University and piano and organ at CMQ. Married to the pianist Gabrielle Hudson, Vallieres' students included Lucille Baby and Jeannine Begin. Vallieres toured with Arthur LeBlanc and Raoul Jobin and was music director of the CBC radio program "L'Heure dominicale". The text is in French. Very good .
