The head & tail of the slightly stained covers' spine are chipped with tears along the joints and a chip to the front edge of the front cover. A previous owner's name and address are penned at the top of the front cover. 368 pages, with numerous illustrations throughout. Good. Included in the contents are reports on Project "NERVA", a nuclear thermal rocket engine which had its origins in Project Rover. Reports on the "SNAP" program ("Systems Nuclear Auxiliary Power"), a program of experimental radioisotope thermoelectric generators and space nuclear reactors flown by NASA in the 1960s. And, reports on the U.S. Government's "PLUTO" project, a program to develop nuclear-powered ramjet engines for use on cruise missiles. Under the direction of Dr. Theodore Charles Merkle, the project had its origin at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory in Livermore, California before moving to Site 401 at the NTS site in Jackass Flats, Nevada. Two engines were subject to experimental tests at the United States Department of Energy Nevada Test Site in 1961 and 1964. Good .
