Thiersch (betr. Choleraatiologie)" [Rebuttal to C. Thiersch in regard to the etiology of cholera] on page 714. Known as the "father of modern pathology", the German physician Rudolf Ludwig Carl Virchow (1821-1902) was also an anthropologist, prehistorian, biologist, writer and politician. As the founder of social medicine, he was know to his colleagues as the "Pope of Medicine". Other articles include Julius Wolff's "Ueber die Ursachen und die Behandlung der Deformitaten, insbesondere des Klumpfusses" [an article regarding the causes and treatment of clubfoot], on pages 161 through 166 and 182 through 186, with illustrations. The work by German surgeon Julius Wolff (1836-1902) is considered one of the milestones defining orthopedics as a distinct discipline in the field of medicine. Wolff's law states that bone in a healthy person or animal will adapt to the loads under which it is placed. When the load on a particular bone increases, the bone will remodel itself, becoming stronger to resist the pressure. Dr. Heinrich von Waldeyer-Hartz's article: "Die neueren Forschungen im Gebiete der Keimblattlehre" [Recent research in the field of Cotyledon theory], appears on pages 257 through 263 and pages 280 through 288, with illustrations. The German anatomist Heinrich Wilhelm Gottfried von Waldeyer-Hartz (1836-1921) summarized neuron theory and is known for naming the chromosome. Anatomical structures of the human body "Waldeyer's tonsillar ring" and "Waldeyer's glands" (of the eyelids) were named after him. The neuron doctrine which he espoused states that the nervous system is made of discrete individual cells. His article, published here, is on the subject of Cotyledon theory which asserts that in the second to third week after fertilization of the egg, 3 cotyledons emerge to form what will become the human body. Prof. Schatz of the Univeraity of Rostock's article "Zur Therapie der Cephalocelen und der Spina bifida" [an article on therapy for encephalocele and spina bifida] appears here on pages 441 through 445, with illustrations. The German gynecologist Christian Friedrich Schatz (1841-1920) was rector of the University of Rostock and was appointed full professor in 1872. Schatz became director of the Clinic for Obstetrics and Gynecology and the head of the State Midwifery Institute in Rostock. He distinguished himself through publications on the birth mechanism, intrauterine pressure measurements, the periodicity of labor and placental studies. Good .
