Description: 19th Century. 19th Century. Very good. - 14 words penned on 5-1/2 inch high by 4-3/8 inch wide "5, Upper Wimpole Street" stationery, with the address embossed in red at the top. The English singer and composer responds to a request for her autograph "I have much pleasure in granting your request.." Signed "Charlotte H. Sainton". Once folded for mailing with clipped corners, the note is mounted with glue from the verso onto heavier stock clipped from an album. Very good. Born Charlotte Helen Dolby, the English contralto Charlotte Sainton-Dolby (1821-1885) studied under Domenico Crivelli at the Royal Academy of Music, and first appeared at a Royal Philharmonic Society concert in 1841. She married the violinist Prosper Sainton and, after retiring from singing, she met with with some success as a composer. Her compositions include: "The Legend of St Dorothea", "The Story of the Faithful Soul" , and "Florimel. Very good .
