Description: Auburn, New York, February 17, 1934. 1934. - Approximately 40 words typed on his personal 6-7/8 inch high by 6 inch wide stationery. Barnes writes to Mr. Hirsch that he is "never in New York during the middle of the week" but is "writing Warden Lawes personally". Signed "Harry E Barnes". Folded for mailing with remnants of tape to the top and bottom edges of the verso. Very good. Once highly regarded, the American historian Harry Elmer Barnes (1889-1968) lost credibility in his later years and came to be regarded as a pariah for his revisionism and denial of the Holocaust. In his younger days, Barnes was a professor of history at Clark University and then a professor of historical sociology at Smith College. He left teaching to become a journalist and freelance writer in 1929, occasionally working as an adjunct professor at smaller institutions. After the war, his revisionist views and denial of the Holocaust led to his loss of credibility. Very good .
