Cavalli, Dick. - Winthrop

Title: Winthrop": Distracted Dad Pats His Bubble Gum Balloon. Original Daily Comic Strip Art by Dick Cavalli, Signed by the Artist.
Description: NEA, Inc. 1976. 1976. - An original pen & ink drawing consisting of 3 panels drawn on 8-1/2 inch high by 20 inch wide art paper. Drawn in black & brown pen & ink by Dick Cavelli the strip portrays Winthrop proudly showing his dad the large bubble gum bubble he's succeeded in blowing. Dad, reading the paper, reaches to pat his head but instead pats the bubble. A dejected Winthrop walks away saddened that "Every penny I have in the world was invested in that bubble gum". Signed "Dick Cavalli" in brown ink and dated "8-7" in black at the bottom right of the last panel. The syndicate's credits, printed on a strip of paper, are mounted along the bottom left of the second panel. The art work is mounted into a black mat with foam board backing. Near fine. The American cartoonist and commercial illustrator Dick Cavalli (1923-1997) created the syndicated comic strips "Morty Meekle" and subsequently "Winthrop". The latter strip "Winthrop", about a group of children's world-wise observations, evolved from his earlier strip which had featured adult characters. Very good .
