A pro-segregation book. At the 1906 session of the Council of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the diocese of Arkansas, it was resolved "that the plan of the Bishop of the Diocese looking to the creation of an autonomous Afro-American Church, be and hereby is approved." The Bishop believed that religion was the only realm in which African Americans could achieve the self-government which, he writes, is essential to solving the race question. He sets out to answer the criticisms of his plan from various quarters and also specifies where the "color line" should be drawn in all areas of American life.

The publisher's lengthy ad is for the Bishop's previous book "The Church for Americans". Fair .
