Description: Boston: Published by J. Buffum, [between 1851 & 1856]. [1856]. [1856]. - 24mo. 4-5/8 inches high b y 2-7/8 inches wide. Red cloth titled and decorated in gilt on the spine with a gilt vignette of a rose within a blind decorated frame on the front cover. All edges are gilt. The covers are rubbed and soiled with wear to the corners and head & tail of the spine. 111 pages, with a hand-colored frontispiece illustration of flowers. There is an early owner's inscription dated January 1, 1857 penned on the front endpaper. The front hinge is cracked and the pages are slightly darkened with occasional soiling. Good. According to the American Antiquarian Society, the publisher Job Buffum was listed in Boston directories from 1851 through 1862. Given the inscription which is here dated January 1, 1857, this copy would have been published between 1851 and 1856. SCARCE. Good .
