Very good. - Octavo, cream leather backed green paper covered boards titled in gilt on the spine, housed in a dark green paper covered slipcase. The book's spine is soiled & slightly chipped at the head. The slipcase is rubbed with some breaks to the edges. x, [ii], 89 & [1] pages plus the colophon, illustrated with a sepia toned portrait frontispiece. A very good unopened copy in a good slipcase.

1188 copies printed by hand by James Hendrickson at Crosby Gaige's Watch Hill Press, Peekskill, NY, May-August 1935.

These letters were in the posession of J. A. S. Altham, grandson of Captain Surtees Cook, later known as Major Altham, who married Henrietta Moulton-Barrett, sister of Elizabeth Barrett-Browning.The foreword to the book is an account by Altham, given in an interview, of how the letters came to be preserved. Very good .
