Key, Ted. (1912-2008). American cartoonist and writer, best known as the creator of the cartoon panel

Title: Signature on a Card of American Cartoonist Ted Key, Together with an Original Drawing of His Character Hazel, Inscribed and Signed by Him.
Description: Fort Dix, NJ: circa 1943-46. 1943-46. Fort Dix, NJ: circa 1943-46. 1943-46. Good. - A cream-colored, 2-1/2 inch high by 3-3/8 inch wide card is boldly signed in black ink "Ted Key". Together with an original pen-and-ink drawing of his character Hazel on a piece of cream-colored paper, 5-1/2 inches high by 3-1/2 inches wide. Inscribed and signed; "Best wishes / Ted Key". Also with the mailing envelope, possibly addressed in another hand, and with his Fort Dix return address. The envelope has been torn open at one end. The card and drawing are in fine condition.

The drawing depicts Key's bossy household maid Hazel standing, hand on hip, shaking her finger at somebody and evidently giving them a good telling-off. The items were mailed during the period 1943-1946, when Key was serving with the U.S. Army, primarily in public relations.

Ted Key [1912-2008], born Theodore Keyser, was an American cartoonist and writer. The single panel cartoon "Hazel" was his most famous creation. "Hazel" is said to have come to him in 1943 in a dream, which he drew the next morning and sent to the Saturday Evening Post, where it was accepted and began running regularly. Key later adapted his comic panel into the television show "Hazel" starring Shirley Booth. Good .
