Illustrated with 4 plates with tissue guard, 3 sepia-toned & 1 in black & white, & with black-and-white textual illustrations. Very good.

Inscribed by the author at the top of the title page to Civil War veteran Louis Livingston: "To Col. Livingston / with the compliments of the author / Edward Blair". Livingston, a member of the notable Dutchess County, New York family, was a Captain and later Aide de Camp in the 1st Brigade, 1st Division of the XII Corps. He served under General Samuel Crawford and was breveted to Major for his service at Antietam and to Lieutenant Colonel for "conspicuous gallantry" at Gettysburg. Very good .
