Title: [Illuminated Broadside]: Poor Richard's Almanac and the Gazette Are to-Day the Most Famous of This Type of Publications [Sic]. In His Autobiography Franklin Says... .
Description: New York: The Cuneo Press, Inc. (1940). (1940). - sc A 19 inch high by 12-3/4 inch wide broadside with 76 lines of text from Benjamin Franklin's autobiography printed in 2 columns in Donat type on hand-made paper and illuminated with a superb gilt, red and black initial. There are some minor creases to the edges and a small indentation above the initial letter. A tiny piece is chipped from the bottom right corner of the broadside. A very good attractive broadside printed on the occasion of the 1940 New York World's Fair.

The colophon, printed in a smaller font and centered at the bottom, reads: "The page of Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac, illuminated by hand, was set in the reconstructed Donat type, the first known movable type (1440), and was printed on hand-made paper by means of a replica of the Gutenberg press exhibited by The Cuneo Press, Inc. in celebration of 500 years of printing at the World's Fair of 1940 in New York". Despite the colophon's claim, Yale University's Sterling Memorial Library correctly identifies the text as from Benjamin Franklin's autobiography and not from Poor Richard's Almanac.

RARE. WorldCat locates only the Yale copy. Very good .
