Jean-Francois de Galaup de Laperouse [1741- 1788] was a distinguished French seaman and explorer, who led the most important Pacific voyage by a French expedition in the eighteenth century. The voyage ended with the sinking of the ships at Vanikoro, probably caused by a hurricane. It was not until 1827 that the wreckage of the expedition was found in the Santa Cruz Islands. Good .
