The original wrap is foxed & stained with some small score marks. 161 & [4] pages plus 7-page publisher's catalog. A tear to page 161 has been repaired with wheat paste & its top edge is chipped. There is a small piece out of the last page of the catalog with tiny tears & dents to a few preceding pages. There is scattered foxing. Good.

Maximo Soto Hall [1871-1944] was an important early twentieth century Guatemalan novelist. Born in Guatemala City, he emigrated to Costa Rica in 1919 and then to Buenos Aires in Argentina where he worked as a journalist for the newspaper La Prensa and where he died in 1944. Many of his novels, including "El problema" and "La sombra de la Casa Blanca", concern the presence and influence of the United States in Central America. Good .
