Description: Brattleborough, VT: John Holbrook, 1817. Stereotype Edition. Ninth Printing. Leather. Publisher's full brown leather, spine in six compartments separated by raised bands. Illustrated with numerous full-page, tissue protected plates. The family record section of this bible is partially completed by members of the Blasdell family, beginning with Jonathan P. Blasdell, born February 19, 1798, and died February 18, 1877. This same Jonathan P. Blasdell presented this book to his step-mother, Susanna, "for and during the life of the said Susanna" and requiring that it be returned to him upon her death (loose page inserted). Engraved title page, dated 1816, precedes the printed title page, dated 1817 and stated to be the 9th edition. The King James Version of the Old and New Testaments, with the Apocrypha, Index, Alphabetical Table of Names, John Brown's Concordance, and an account of The Lives and Martyrdom of the Apostles and Evangelists (which the title page states appears in this edition for the first time). This impression was made using the Oxford edition of 1784 by Jackson and Hamilton, and the publisher has "been attentive" to the 1668 Cambridge edition by John Field, the Edinburgh edition of 1775 by Kincaid, and the London edition of 1772 by Eyre and Strahan.. Spine and covers worn and scuffed, one endpaper and several preliminary pages separated but present, interior hinges sprung, but binding tight, pages generally supple. A large, heavy book (nine pounds) - additional shipping charges may apply. GOOD. Thick 4to 11" - 13" tall. 930, 154, 123, 39, (1) pp. Good with No dust jacket as issued .
