Thomas Ford (1800-1850) was the eighth Governor of Illinois, and served in this capacity from 1842 to 1846. A Democrat, he is remembered largely for his involvement in the death of Joseph Smith, and the subsequent Illinois Mormon War. Boards are rubbed, corners are lightly bumped, bookplate of previous owner on front endpapers, otherwise, this copy is clean and tight. VERY GOOD.. The Lakeside Classics Series. Vol. 44.
