BALL, ZACHARY.
Tent Show.
New York: Holiday House 1964. 1st Edition. Hardbound 8vo (about 8.5 inches tall) 186 pages. Illustrated endpapers. Description: The jacket art and endpapers are credited to William Moyers; no credit given for the frontis illustration, but probably also by Moyers. Bruce's story is true-to-life comedy of a theatrical yesterday, when traveling shows and circuses provided valued entertainment in an age before radio or television. Zachary Ball (Kelly Ray Masters) is also the author of Bristle Face and the sequel Sputters, here he tells a story close to his own heart as he himself was a farm boy who joined a traveling tent show at the age of seventeen equipped with nothing more than a pawnshop dress suit and a potato-bug mandolin. BINDING/CONDITION: light green cloth with darker green text; this is an EX-LIBRARY copy with all the usual markings, badly worn along the bottom edge (cloth rubbed completely away; a sturdy reading copy with a Good dust jacket; the jacket is price clipped at the top corner; a piece of paper taped to the reverse side of the jacket at the top spine where there's a narrow chip about one inch long.
