First printing in Japan of a European work wholly devoted to human reproduction. Entirely about the process of generation and childbirth. The excellent plates based on European models are hand colored lithographs as issued. Rare. The Japanese kana when enunciated are pronounced very close to "James Ashton". There was an American missionary named Ashton active in Japan at the time and in the absence of any book in English it would seem likely that he wrote a book specifically for translation into Japanese, basing his text on existing English works, and using existing plates, which were copied by the Japanese publisher.
