Signed and inscribed by Victor Herbert to actress Marie Burroughs on title page. Also included is a manuscript musical quotation to front wrap verso. Victor August Herbert (1859 - 1924) was an Irish-American composer, celist, and orchestra conductor - best known for his numerous, highly successful operettas, including the current one, which would be his first major hit. Marie Burroughs (1866 - 1926) was a famous Broadway actress, described by author Willa Cather as: "not a very great actress, but she is great enough to be allowed to do her best unhindered. Good .
