Title: The Tsar's Best Agent
Description: S. l. (Belmont, MA), American Opinion, 1976. First separate edition (published right after it had appeared as an article in the March, 1976 issue of 'American Opinion'); 9 x 6; pp. 1-16; self-wraps in black and white; illustrated with photographs and facsimile documents; mild wear to corners and edges; in very good to near fine condition. Alan Stang (1929 - 2009), described by his contemporaries as a "five-foot Jewish novelist," often wrote for the "American Opinion" - that being the house organ of the right-wing advocacy group the John Birch Society. The organization was founded in 1958 by Robert Welch (1899 - 1985), political activist, businessman, and avid conspiracy theorist. In his current work, Stang would review "detailed Communist proofs," interviews, and other material, in order to prove that Polish intelligence officer, defector, triple-agent, and onetime CIA employee Michael Goleniewski was in fact Emperor Nicholas II of Russia's son Tsarevich Alexei Romanov. According to Stang, the Romanovs, officially killed in Ekaterinburg, were instead smuggled into Poland, from where Goleniewski would later hail and would lay claim on being Nicholas' child. Allegedly, his claims would be viewed as a great embarrassment for the CIA and his employment with the agency would be terminated, because of them. Very good .
