Title: A Small Collection of Advertising Material, Related to Shoes and Boots
Description: Various, Various, 1880. Twenty-eight trade- and business cards, n. d. (1880s); various formats and sizes, including die-cut; chromolithographed illustrations; most with minor wear - in near fine condition; several with residue to verso from being removed from a scrapbook; one with a trimmed corner; overall in very good condition. A beautiful collection, it showcased both the practical side of the shoe trade (quality, durability, etc.) and the advertising trends of the times. Several of the cards were in series, including those for C. A. Wentworth in Lynn, MA - one type, a set of 3, long and narrow, resembling bookmarks, and the other - a set of 4 miniatures - of children carrying flowers and playing; another series of 2 advertised Sollers and Co. with children performing and playing music on a stage. Other business names included Goodyear's, John Foster and Co. Bixby, E. T. Merrill, F. J. Wright, etc. Also included was a plain business card, printed in fancy fonts, of John C. Fallon, Fashionable Boots and Shoes, of New York and a folded brochure (?), unfortunately with trimmed edges obscuring the last line, advertising Solar-tip Shoes. Very good .
