Title: Revere Polka and Redowa
Description: Boston, G. P. Reed & Co. 1852. First Edition. Sheet music; 13 1/2 x 10 1/2; pp. 3-5; cream stock, illustrated with an engraving by Geo. Smith after Hammatt Billings; closed cut to tail of spine; a bit of dust-dulling to margins; faint music shop label and number to front wrap; overall in good to very good condition. Created for the piano, the work was illustrated with a magnificent rendering of the Revere House by renowned Boston architect and artist Charles Howland Hammatt Billings (1818-1874). Among his achievements were the National Monument of the Forefathers and the original illustrations to Uncle Tom's Cabin. The Revere House, built in 1847, was considered by many Boston's most prestigious hotel, with its notable guests including Charles Dickens, Grand Duke Aleksei of Russia, Ulysses Grant, Walt Whitman, and so on. A project of the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association, the hotel would be named after Paul Revere - one of the co-founders of the organization. Very good .
