Three issues, Vol. 1-No. 19, December 1876; Vol. 2-No. 1, January 1877; Vol. 2-No.2, February 1877; 12 x 9 1/4; pp. [1], 232-244, [2]; [1], 2-14, [2]; [1], 16-28, [4] respectively; illustrated with small woodcuts and drawings; each issue tied with decorative strings; a few small nicks and chips to edges; mild age-toning and a few spots of foxing;overall in very good condition. Influential for its time, albeit short-lived, the journal was published monthly from June 1875 until October 1879 under the patronage of the Massachusetts Agricultural College. Subtitled: "In the Interests of Profitable Agriculture," it was co-edited by Edgar Howard Libby - father of noted artist Grace Libby Vollmer and editor of numerous agricultural periodicals in Amherst, Boston, New York, Chicago, and North Yakima, Washington. He would also establish the Lewiston (Idaho) Water and Power Company in 1896, completing ambitious and highly-successful irrigation and bridge construction projects, with the financial backing of Charles Francis Adams, former president of the Union Pacific Railroad and grandson of John Quincy Adams. The second editor was Edward Lewis Sturtevant - botanist, agronomist, and author, considered a major figure of the American agricultural science. Each issue of the journal included sections on dairy and stock, chemistry, botany, entomology, and so on. Scarce, with issues recorded only at the American Antiquarian Society. Very good .
