First edition (copywrited 1953, published 1954); 8 1/2 x 5 1/2; pp. [4], 5-80; pictorial wraps in beige and green, designed by Volodymyr Sichynskyi; illustrated with portrait frontis; age-toning and a few faint spots to margins of wraps; small creases along spine and edges; overall in very good condition. Pavlo Savchuk (1903 - 1969) was a Ukrainian poet, playwright, literary critic, educator, and full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. He emigrated to the US, after spending time in several Dispaced Persons camps in Germany. His current poetry collection, one of four, stand-alone volumes over many years, was the first one to be published in the US. The previous three were released in the DP camps. The cover design was created by Volodymyr Sichynskyi (1894 - 1962) - Ukrainian-American graphic artist, architect, and educator. After co-establishing the Architectural Institute in Kiev, he taught in Lviv and Prague, before he was arrested and imprisoned by the Gestapo in 1943. Sichynskyi emigrated to the US in 1949, where he continued writing and working on his architectural designs until his death. Very good .
