(1948 - date based on advertising on back wrap); 7 1/2 x 5; pp. [1], 8-94, [6]; yellow, pictorial wraps, wonderfully bright and well-preserved; illustrated with numerous in-line drawings; a small chip to top edge of front wrap and some chipping to lower right corners of wraps and text block; overall in very good condition. First published in 1881, the book was entirely devoted to instructions of "manly" sports, with particular emphasis on swimming, boxing, and gymnastics. The illustrations used appeared to have been reprinted from those in the first edition. It also listed the boxing world heavyweight champions from 1882 to 1948. Very good .
