First edition; 8 3/4 x 5 1/2; pp. [4], 5-78, [2]; pictorial paper over boards and 1/4 cloth, decorated after a gravure by Georgyi Iakutovich; illustrated with numerous photographs and drawings; a bit of wear to boards and tips of spine; ffep with creases and two tiny pieces of tape; in about very good condition. Irena Knysh (1909 - 2006) was a noted journalist, polyglot, and prolific author of books on the Ukrainian Women's Movement. During WWII, she spent time in Krakow and Austria, before emigrating with her family to Winnipeg, from where she worked for various emigre newspapers and journals in Canada, the US, and France. She was considered the archivist of the Ukrainian Diaspora in North America. She would become one of the very first women to be included in the Ukrainian Literary Encyclopedia. Her current book, on the Ukrainian people's love for music and dance, was published for the Jubilee for the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first Ukrainians in Canada. Very good .
