Uniform edition, 1 of 5070 copies; 6 3/4 x 5; pp. [9], 8-314, [2]; burgundy cloth over boards, embossed and decorated in gilt; light-brown dust jacket with an Avant-garde design; red topstain; illustrated with halftone gravures after the 1710 edition; tiny, later plates (unrelated to text) affixed to ffep and rfep; light fading to cloth and gilt on spine; front board corners with small bumps; in very good condition. Jacket with a few small chips to tips and some wear to corners - in good to very good condition. Jonathan Swift's 'A Tale of a Tub" was first translated into Russian and published in the "Iziashchnaia literatura" journal in 1884 by Vladimir Chuiko, but it was largely abridged. The first full translation was done in 1930, with a preface by Anatoly Lunacharsky and the second, the current one, in 1931 - by noted Soviet translator of 18th-century English novels Adrian Frankovsky. The design of the title page, cloth decorations, and dust jacket were created by Soviet Jewish illustrator, graphic artist, type designer, and member of the "Leningrad School of Book graphics" Mark Abramovich (Meer-Wolf Avraamovich) Kirnarskii (1893 - 1942).
