Although, not much is known about the author, writing under the pseudonym Hoopoe (bird) in a DP camp in Germany, the little book offered practical and somewhat-amusing suggestions for civilized behaviour, including "Do not keep your hands in your pockets," "Never eat fish with a knife," "Do not spit and smack your mouth," and "Never shrug your shoulders at a woman.
