Title: Ashland, Oregon. "the Carlsbad of America
Description: S. l. (Ashland, OR), Ashland Tidings, 1910. First edition, n. d. (ca 1910); approx. 4 1/2 x 3; pp. 1-16; stapled, pictorial wraps, die-cut into the shape of a glass of water; illustrated with a centerfold, panoramic photograph; light wear to edges; small scuff to lower margin of back wrap; in very good condition. Surrounded by over 40 mineral springs, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries Ashland aspired to become the Carlsbad of America - a mineral water resort and a prime destination for health seekers. In addition, the first Annual Shakespeaean Festival was held in 1935, and every year since (with a brief interruption during WWII), with 400 000 tickets sold every year. The little booklet was distributed by the Publicity Department of the Ashland Commercial Club and described the city's location, recreational activities, climate, accomodations, and so on. Very good .
