First edition; 10 x 7; pp. 3-30, [2]; glossy, pictorial wraps in off-white, brown, and red; title in Ukrainian and English on facing pages; numerous sepia-tone illustrations by Petro Andrusiv; very minor wear to tips of spine and edges; barest age-toning and smudging to margins; in very good to near fine condition. iuryi Tys, pseud. for Iuryi Krokhmaliuk (1904 - 1994), was a Ukrainian historian, author, publisher, and journalist. Educated as an engineer, he also served in the Polish Army and was later arrested as a member of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. He founded the Lviv publishing house "Iunatska shkola." After the Second World War, Tys spent time in Austria and Germany, before emigrating to Argentina in 1947. While working as a chemical engineer in Buenos Aires, he co-founded the Union of Ukrainian Scientists, Artists, and Writers in Argentina. Tys moved to the US in 1961, where he would become Chairman of the Institute of Ukrainian Culture and would edit the journal "Terem." Throughout it all, he was a prolific author of historical fiction, humorous stories and plays, and children's books, including the current tales of knights and knighthood. Very good .
