John Mortimer Murphy (1845 - 1898) was a British hunter and freelance writer, who traveled extensively throughout the North American West in the pre-railroad era, when most of the inhabitants of the area were wild beasts and Native Americans. His current book was an ambitious attempt at describing all the game animals found west of the Mississippi. It described his real-life adventures through California, Oregon, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and the Washington Territory and included chapters on the grizzly bear, the cougar, the buffalo, the gray woulf, etc. Very good .
