First edition, limited to 500 copies and signed by the author (this copy #484); 9 1/2 x 6 1/4; pp. [13], 2-385, [3]; brick-red cloth over boards; title in gilt, on a black background, to spine; pictorial dust jacket; illustrated with numerous photographs; very minor wear to corners and tips of spine - near fine condition; DJ with a small cut to top edge of flap and slight darkening to margins on verso - very good to near fine condition. The book, written by Jesuit Priest and professor at the University of Santa Clara Gerald McKevitt (1939 - 2015), was based on his doctoral dissertation and detailed the clorful history of the university as the oldest operating institution of higher learning in California, from its first opening its doors less than a year after California was granted statehood in 1851 until 1977. Chapters included early student life, the Great Depression years, and so on. Near fine .
