Charles CHauncey Burr (1817 - 1883) was an author, journalist, publisher, and one of Edgar Allan Poe's closest friends. He founded several periodicals throughout the US, including "The Old Guard" in New York, "The Democrat" in New Jersey, and "Nineteen Century" in Philadelphia. He also participated in the 1872 Democratic National Convention. .
