Title: Hand-Painted Escutcheon, in Honor of Italian Prime Minister Amintore Fanfani in 1963
Description: S. l. (Washington, DC [?]), s. n. 1963. First Edition. Pressed cardboard (1/4") and paint, in the shape of a wedge-top escutcheon; the Emblem of the Italian Republic to recto (although also called Coat of Arms of the Italian Republic, it is indeed an emblem, because it is not designed to conform to the official heraldic rules); manuscript notes in pen and marker to verso; two miniscule punctures through the middle (for hanging); a bit of wear to corners; scattered spots of foxing; in about very good condition. Designed by an anonymous enthusiast and subtitled on verso: "Dinner (black tie) for His Excellency Amitore Fanfani, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, January 18, 1963," the sign commemorated his official visit to the US, Washington, DC and Chicago, beetween January 15th and 18th of 1963. Amintore Fanfani (1908 - 1999) was one of Italy's best-known, post-WWII politicians, Prime Minister of the country for five separate terms, representative of the left-wing section of the Christian Democracy Party, and co-founder of the Italian Centre-left. Very good .
