A collection of speeches on relevant for the time subjects, they were delivered by some of the more skillful and prominent US politicians of the 19th century. The orators included the previous owner of the book, Missouri Congressman and Senator George Graham Vest (1830 - 1904), Ohio and New York Congressman and US Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire Samuel S. Cox (1824 - 1889), Oregon Senator James H. Slater (1826 - 1899), Virginia Congressman John R. Tucker (1823 - 1897), Massachusetts Senator George F.
