Author: Anonymous Title: CIVIL War Soldier Silk Card
Description: Boston, J. A. Lowell & Co. 1873. First Edition. Ribbed-silk card with an engraved illustration, 1873 (? - illegible); 5 1/4 x 3 1/2; publisher’s info below (quite faint and almost invisible); unevenly trimmed, else minor wear; very good or better condition. Possibly part of a series of engravings (very faint No. 24) printed in lower right margin, the card depicted a Civil War soldier, dressed in a Zouave uniform with a red fez and red baggy pantaloons, which were popular in the early stages of the war, a drum, a flag, and a low building in the distance. It could have been an advertising piece, as the publisher was well known for his trade cards and other such materials in the second half of the 19th century. Very good .
