Second edition; 7 3/4 x 5 1/2; pp. [6], 1-64, [2]; 1/4 beige cloth and gray textured paper over boards, printed and illustrated in blue and gilt; some rubbed spots along edges; a bit of wear to boards; previous owner's signature and date to ffep; very good condition. *Signed and inscribed by the author on a tipped-in note.* Laura Elizabeth Howe Richards (1850 - 1943) was an American poet, author, and daughter of the founder of the Perkins Institution and Massachusetts School for the Blind, abolitionist Dr. Samuel Gridley Howe. In 1917, she was a Pulitzer Prize winner for the biography "Julia Ward Howe," which she co-authored with her sisters. The current book told the story of a boy, who was raised by the keeper of a lighthouse. It was later made into two films, one of which starring Shirley Temple. Very good .
