A small label on the front wrap verso identifies the previous owner of the book as Jacques Povolozky (born Iakov Benderskii in Odessa) - Russian emigre publisher, art gallery-owner, and translator in Paris, who was a major figure among the art and literary circles of the time.Nikolai Evreinov (1879 - 1953) was a dramatist, a director, and an important figure of the Russian Symbolism Movement. His current study of artist Mikhail Nesterov (1862 - 1942), who was closely associated with the Peredvizhniki i Mir Iskusstva, was largely based on his personal experiences and recollections after their meeting in 1911.The design of the book was created at the studio and publishing house of Nataliia Butkovskaia (1878 - 1948). She was an actor, director, and publisher and employed various artists to work on designing the books she published. She would become best known for her series of works, including the current one, on notable Russian artists. Ill.: 0. 2.
