First edition; removed; 8 1/2 x 5 1/4; pp. [1], 6-32; laid paper, printed and ruled in black; light, uniform age-toning; very good or better condition.Benjamin Colman (1673 - 1747) was a Harvard graduate and one of the most prominent religious figures of his generation. He would become Pastor of the Brattle Street Church in 1699 and would continue for 48 years, until his death. Colman was an avid proponent of reforming the Congregational Church. He also known to have coordinated many missionary trips among the Native Americans. His current sermon was presented at the funeral of the wife of William Shirley (1694 - 1771) - British Colonial administrator, Governor of the Bahamas, and the longest serving Governor of the Province of Massachusetts Bay from 1741 until 1749 and then from 1753 until 1756.
