Description: Stuttgart: By the author, 1883. Softcover. Printed document, partially filled and signed in manuscript; 9 1/4 x 7; single card stock sheet, with an elaborate border, including the Alliance Coat of Arms of the King and Queen of Wurttemberg; faint crease line through the middle; verso margins backed with a period (?) newspaper strips; small, narrow puncture to upper left corner (insect damage); overall in very good condition. In German. Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna of Russia (1822 – 1892), later Queen Olga of Württemberg, was the second daughter of Emperor Nicholas I of Russia. Considered one of the most eligible princesses in Europe, Olga married Crown Prince Charles of Württemberg in the summer of 1846. Because of Charles' homosexuality, the couple never had children, which was why Olga dedicated her life to social causes, often involving children, their education, and their health. She was also quite intelligent, highly educated, and interested in the sciences, and was known for her extensive collection of minerals (now housed at the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart). Furthermore, she was a very accomplished artist, although just a few of her paintings and drawings have come to light in the last two centuries. When her husband died in the fall of 1891, Olga became Queen Dowager of Württemberg. She died one year later, almost to the day, on 30 October 1892. The diplom, issued by her in 1883 to one Dorothea Brosi, awarded the latter "in recognition of 35 years of faithful services." Although research has revealed little about the woman in question, she was most probably involved in Olga's charitable organizations. Ill.: 0. 2.
