A Harvard graduate, Eliot was one of very few ministers to remain in Boston throughout the siege of the city during the Revolutionary War. He was also the namesake of one of the main characters of screenwriter and author Erich Segal's novel "The Class." He presented his current speech on the dangers of the First Great Awakening at his ordination at the New North Church. (Evans 4940).
