A part of California history, the pamphlet presented the Endowment Act of the California Assembly and Senate, the Grant of Endowment from Leland Stanford, and the minutes of the first meeting of the board of trustees, which established the Leland Stanford Junior University. Leland Stanford (1824 - 1893) - industrialist, Governor of California, US Senator, and President of the Southern Pacific - and his wife Jane donated over $40 million and founded the university as a memorial to their only child, Leland Stanford Jr. who had died of typhoid fever in 1884. The university officially opened its doors in 1891 and its very first student, admitted to Encina Hall, was future president Herbert Hoover. Ill.: 0. Good 2.
