Title: The Depression. Its Real Causes and the Remedy
Description: New York: Published by the Author, 1933. Softcover. First edition; 9 x 6; pp. 16; printed blue wraps; a bit of age-toning along margins; small nick to back wrap; overall very good. An uncommon publication by the pioneer of helicopter flight, Bessarabian-born engineer George de Bothezat (Russian: Georgii Aleksandrovich Botezat). He fled Russia after the Revolution and settled in the United States in 1918 where he would be hired by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and would lecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Columbia University. Hired by the US Army Air Service in 1921, Bothezdat, together with Ivan Jerome, would build a prototype quadrotor helicopter, simply called the de Bothezat helicopter, which turned out to be surprisingly successful. Later on, in the late 1930s, he would partner with the former test pilot of the Sikorsky Aircraft, Boris Sergievskii, and would continue building newly designed and improved helicopters. He wrote several popular technical books and manuals, but he also penned the current book in which he elaborated on the Great Depression, banking, the collapse of the economy, and possible solutions to the crisis. OCLC lists only copies of the second edition of April, 1933 (this copy published a month earlier in March of '33); no other copies in the trade as of July 2014. Ill.: 0. 2.
