II pp. 286; reddish-pink embossed cloth over boards; paper spine labels; small rubbed spots to corners and a small bump to upper corner of front board; a few small nicks and chips to tips of spine; cloth on spine a bit sun-faded; foxing mostly contained to first and last several pages with occasional spotting throughout; overall very good-. Catharine Sedgwick (1789 – 1867) was best known for her novels in what was called "domestic fiction" genre. The female characters in her works were most often spirited nonconformists who did not bow to the stereotype of women's conduct and behavior of the times. In fact, she was one Edgar Allan Poe's favorite authors and he was known to had referred to her current book as the best novel written by an American female novelist. 'The Linwoods' was a historical romance set during the American Revolution. Quite uncommon. Ill.: 0. 2.
