Description: Moscow: Kirovskii Raionnyi Voennyi Komissariat (notice); Moscow: Sovetskii Khudozhnik, 1944. Softcover. Small sheet, printed with hand-filled notes (recto only); trimmed to 4 1/4 x 5 1/4; two faint intersecting fold lines through middle; small closed cuts to edges; few spots to verso only; overall good to very good condition. Brochure limited to 600 copies; 5 1/2 x 11 1/2; triple-folded; portrait frontis and several b&w illustrations from paintings; minor wear, near fine condition. Aleksandr Mordan' joined the Red Army after graduating from the Moscow Art Institute in early 1941. The "Missing in Action" notification was sent to his family - informing them that he was missing as of November 1941 - in October of 1944, 3 years (?!) after he had allegedly disappeared. Though research had been fruitless in determining exactly when and where he resurfaced, very much alive, Mordan' resumed working on his art until his death in 1983. The brochure gave a brief history of his life and several examples of his beautiful projects. Ill.: 0. 2.
