Title: Sixty Years of Yesterdays [Signed/Inscribed by Author]
Description: Published by the author, 1991. Softcover. First edition; 8 1/2 x 11; pp. i-v, [1], 6-207; heavy-stock printed wraps with portrait of the author; small closed cut to tail of spine and minor creases to upper corners; illustrated with numerous photographs; very good to near fine. Signed and inscribed by author on title page. Though loosely classified as autobiography, Opal Clark's book is dedicated largely to her husband Robert D. Clark - president of San Jose State University (1964-1969) and his unfailing and vocal support of the Civil Rights Movement and particularly African-American athletes, including Olympians John Carlos and Tommie Smith both of whom went to school at San Jose State - and their life together. Several chapters described the couple's "social action" involvement while Robert Clark was presiding over SJSU (the founding campus of the California State University (CSU) system and the oldest public institution of higher education on the West Coast). Bob Clark was also the university administrator who helped and supported the infamous San Jose State Student Strikes while talking the police officers dispatched into not beating the protesters and his students into not employing violence and destruction. The only copy in the trade with OCLC listing 2 institutional holdings. Ill.: 0. 2.
